ACT & SAT Test Prep
ACT/SAT Prep Program Overview
Our PowerPrep Founder Tania provides both ACT and SAT prep to help students reach their goals and maximize their gains for each test day.
Background
Over the last ten years, Tania has worked to perfect skills and techniques for maximizing scores and minimizing time spent per problem on both the ACT and SAT. She has helped hundreds of students become successful with valuable tips and the knowledge needed to achieve gains to reach their goals.
It is key to first determine which test (ACT or SAT) is best suited for each student for their prep in order to achieve the highest gains in the shortest time. Tania is able to help with a recommendation of the best test for each student before starting sessions.
Tutoring Sessions
Our typical ACT/SAT sessions are 1.5 hours long each week and are all one-on-one sessions. During each session, we review every problem missed with full solutions, give strategies for improving content knowledge and timing, guide students through math software review, show strategy videos, and work with students on pacing with practice passages.
It usually takes 12-14 sessions to fully review all areas for either exam for a first time student (18-21 hours of in-session coverage). An exact number of sessions is not required since we provide services on a session-by-session basis and you can customize a review, but full coverage is recommended for more sizable gains in each area of the exam. Students taking either test for an additional test date, may set up a shorter review to aim for additional gains. Students typically gain additional points with each test day they prepare for.
We also show students a variety of specific calculator tips to help solve certain problem types more quickly and save time in the Math areas of each exam.
Prep and Work Outside of Sessions
Outside of every student session, Tania spends time reviewing each student’s work and preparing a personalized lesson plan based on their current progress. The student’s weekly assignment consists of working on practice work and applying the strategies we covered in the last sessions as well as using an online math program to reach full content coverage in the math area. Each student’s prep work between sessions is essential for achieving more sizable gains.
Students should prepare to allocate about 2.5-3.5 hours over their week for the outside of session practice. This work can be split up into 20 to 30 minute units, if needed, to fit more easily into a busy schedule. Any student who would like to spend more than the suggested time will increase their potential for gains even more.
Gains with Prep
On average, we have been able to help ACT students increase their initial composite scores between 3-8 full composite points prior to their actual exam. We also have students who have been able to achieve very high ACT gains of 9-12 composite points with their first full review. We have helped a number of students increase scoring all the way to the highest levels of 35-36 on the ACT (36 is a perfect score on the ACT).
For the SAT, our typical gains range from 80-280 points with a full review. Some of our students have even been able to gain between 290-480 points with a full review first test date review. We have worked with some students achieving up to the higher levels of 1570-1590 on the SAT with our prep (1600 is a perfect score on the SAT).
Flexibility in Scheduling
At Power Prep Tutors, we are flexible with scheduling student sessions. Students pre-save a weekly time spot for their one-on-one sessions, but we are also able to offer other time options on occasions when a student needs a different day/time for a particular week when we are given a bit of notice. We know students have very busy schedules, and we would like to offer this flexibility for our students.
Program/Session Coverage
The session cost includes all tutor time and materials provided in the 1.5 hour session. There is no additional charge for any time spent reviewing student work and preparing each session’s lesson plan. We use this time outside of each session to prepare these items ahead of time in order to maximize the student session coverage within each session.
